About Our Chamber
For more than 50 years, the Westfield Area Chamber of Commerce has served both the community and its members through the volunteer efforts of local business and professional people.

Primarily, the Westfield Area Chamber of Commerce provides a necessary forum for the exchange of ideas and information among local business people in retailing, service and the professions. It administers an on-going schedule of programs, projects and meetings designed to keep local business people in contact with one another and with the needs of the business community. The Chamber monitors local developments and regulation, keeps in regular contact with town officials and local legislators, and informs members on issues that affect business. The Chamber represents both its individual members and the businesss community as a whole and acts on their behalf. The Chamber builds good relationships between business people and the larger community by working in coalition with other town groups on charitable projects and civic events.

The History Behind Our Logo
Harry Devlin was born on March 22, 1918, in Jersey City. At 8 years old, he drew a picture on the blackboard that impressed his teacher so much that she had to show the principal. This was the beginning of Harry's career in illustration.

Harry went on to do free lance work for Life Magazine, became leading editorial cartoonist at Collier's, and illustrated stories for Saturday Home Magazine and New York Daily News. He was responsible for creating graphics for advertisers, New Jersey's Public Service Electric and Gas Company, Exxon, General Motors, Shell Oil Company, O'Mealia Advertising Corporation of Jersey City and Ford Motor Company. He also produced 6 stamps for the U.S. Postal Service.

Harry Devlin's battle with a long illness ended on Sunday, November 25, 2001, but the legacy of his career endures. Harry had been a supporter of the Chamber of Commerce, and in the early 1980's he drew 200 limited edition, signed and numbered prints. The East Broad Street print that became the Chamber's logo is one of the many prints in this series. In 1988, the Westfield Area Chamber of Commerce received permission to use one of Harry Devlin's prints for their new logo.

We appreciate his permission and are honored to use Harry's outstanding artwork as our logo.
